ABOUT
Lucy is a self-taught artist who has spent several decades following a career in emergency medicine and raising a family. Nine years ago she left medicine (and Wales) to become a professional artist on the west coast of Portugal where she’s been concentrating on developing the other side of her brain.
“I find myself drawn into the minutiae of portraiture and still life. Contracting the world onto canvas feels claustrophobic - it’s more comfortable to expand it by zooming in on the nitty gritty. I try to capture the spirit of the subject and reveal emotions other than the commonly depicted passivity and acquiescence of youthful feminine beauty.”
